Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Obstructive Sleep Apnea & Oromyofunctional Therapy
Portland Oregon, February 1, 2020
REGISTRATION OPENS SOON!
This one-day workshop is an advanced level course for SLPs, RDHs, orthodontists, dentists, sleep specialists, and other medical professionals already diagnosing and treating orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs). Structural specialists will learn how muscle dysfunction and individual behavior can influence boney structure over time and how oromyofunctional therapy (OMT) can provide stability post orthodontics and post oromaxillofacial surgery. Direct providers of OMT will learn how to build multidisciplinary teams, coordinate treatment over weeks, months, and years to ensure optimal outcomes and long term generalization.
Medical and dental staff are invited to attend at the allied professional rate, but attendance is not implied training or endorsement to diagnose or treat OMDs beyond one’s medical or dental licensure.
1. Define the scope of practice of OMDs and the special populations treated by OMT.
2. Efficiently screen patients for oral dysfunction, as well as outline the structural, functional, and behavioral areas of an OMD assessment.
3. Define considerations for multidisciplinary assessment, including the timing of palate expansion and lingual frenectomy.
4. Differentiate oromyofunctional goals, objectives, and strategies to individualize patient care as it relates to orthodontic cases, oromaxillofacial surgery, and children and adults with sleep disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnea.
